What is a paintball? – Paintball Gun Fps

A paintball is a spherical capsule of gelatinous substance and paint, which is fired from a paintball gun. The capsules burst on impact, splattering the gooey paint onto the target. In addition to being a popular recreational activity, paintball is also used as a training tool for military, police, and security personnel. Regardless of your level of paintball knowledge, here are 10 things you might not know about shooting paintballs.

Keep in mind that when working with paintballs, a layout of the target is important to ensure consistent hits. For this reason, a safe, legal paintball range must be maintained outside of your property. Position the target so the target is in line with the powder charges, and don’t point the gun directly at your target; instead, hold the gun level with your shoulder or hip. Pointing the gun at your target will ensure no hits will be missed.

  1. Paint and safety can be a bit of a conundrum for first-time gunners or paintball enthusiasts. Learn tips and lessons specific to your paintball game before getting started to ensure an enjoyable and safe paintball experience.

Keep all paintballs in protective containers, your paint gun, protective gear, goggles, and safety glasses with you at all times. In addition, paintballs must always be kept separate from other potentially dangerous items, such as acids, solids, and corrosive agents. Never mix paint and solids, and never store a paintball with corrosive materials or loose grit pieces.

  1. There’s a paintball-specific term for your target. The caliber of the paintball is measured in grains, which are similar to the size of tiny grains of sand. A #3 ball is the biggest size, and the paintball markers typically range between.25 and.5 grains. A pointed tip: Just because a paintball range says “3” or “4” doesn’t mean the ball is actually 3/4 “long.” It could be as short as 2/3 “long, then a 2/3 “point tip,” etc. Be sure to confirm the specific size before firing.

The history of paintball – Paintball Gun Fps

The first paintball game was held in 1981 by a group of friends in Connecticut who were looking for a new way to play the game of capture the flag. Their game didn’t involve guns and it wasn’t called paintball; it was called “The Game.” Two groups of friends began to play (the Jaredite side, consisting of Michael Ryan and Richard Chase, against the other Jaredite side, consisting of Danny Sullivan and Jeff Pollard).

Retired from a law enforcement career, Michael and Jeff each managed their own teams of players, while Danny’s team consisted of two other friends from the law enforcement officer.

The game was to begin at 9 a.m. each day until 3 p.m. each day. After all the teams had been split up, the field manager would announce the start of the game. Each of the Roger requirements had to be met with regards to the paint that was being used on the field (in the case of Upper Arlington, it was 1 gallon of flat white, which is equivalent to about 800 gallons of regular paint).

During the catch-up between players in the two teams, players on both teams were allowed to swap teams if their lack of knowledge in paintball turned out to be a bit too much of a liability. During the game, both teams were allowed to keep and use the paintball provided to them by the league.

What played as a major disadvantage to the Jaredite side was that the paint was a lot more expensive, which limited what the teams could safely shoot at each other with regards to the paintballs. Danny Sullivan eventually took control of the game, hiring armed security guards to physically separate the two teams and to interview all players about their paintball knowledge.

It seems as though this proved to be a big disadvantage for the Jaredite side; as both teams were armed to the teeth, nobody could really shoot blindly at each other with the paintballs (sound familiar?).

How fast does a paintball go? -Paintball Gun Fps

The speed of a paintball is dependent on the pressure of the compressed air that is used to propel it from the gun. The higher the pressure, the faster the paintball will travel. A paintball that is shot from a high-pressure gun can travel at speeds of over 400 feet per second. Higher pressure guns are only effective when shooting at a specific area or at a specific angle. Lower pressure guns can achieve paintball speeds in excess of 300 feet per second. A paintball that travels that fast is a laser-guided effect that is impossible to create a lower pressure.

As an added benefit, the higher the pressure, the duller the color of the balls used will be. A dull paintball impacts every shot a little less because it’s traveling at such a high speed.

Fast paintballs are a sizable advantage for groups indoors, outdoor, and in outdoor heated areas. Being able to shoot at a faster speed means you are less likely to miss the mark.

How Fast Do Paintballs Travel? – Paintball Gun Fps

Typically paintballs travel at a speed of 65-70 miles per hour. To produce fast speeds, groups would need to move at a rate of one per second. There are very few sports that utilize paintball training in the same way that paintballers train for speed, acceleration, and accuracy.

Most other sports rely on the same muscles and tend to train and hone in on specific areas of the body. That is not the case for paintball. The biggest difference is speed and space. Just because you train to run faster and farther doesn’t actually prepare you for running at a faster speed, traveling farther, or hitting a home run.

paintball terminology is quite simple. The concept of a “goal shot” refers to the first common shot that a drill shoots. These typically are high-power shots intended to bend the rim of the batting cage. The other common paintball term is a target. A target is simply a designated space that the drill shooter wishes to hit.

Safety first!

When it comes to working with chemicals, the most important thing is safety. Make sure you’re working in a well-ventilated area and wearing the appropriate safety equipment. If you’re going to be using a lot of chemicals, wear gloves, goggles, long sleeves, and long pants.
