Know the basics of paintball – How to Win at Paintball

Paintball is a game played with players divided into two teams. The objective is to eliminate the opposing team by hitting them with pellets launched from a paintball gun or marker, which is a paintball marker designed specifically for the sport.

Historically, there were two main ways to kill a competitor in a paintball competition. The former is known as “chipping,” where the victim is hit directly on the head by a ball marked with a specific color. The latter is where a variety of different colors are mixed together to create a target that is by no means visibly the same color.

While both methods can result in instant death and create a highly unequal battle, each tends to lead to incredibly exciting wins (congratulate your offense — they scored!). So what do you do when the other team is using color to their advantage?

If you don’t know much about paintball, you may be surprised to learn that there are actually different methods of winning. Sometimes, you have to outsmart your opponent, but other times, brute force is the only option.

One of the most famous teams in the sport of paintball, the U.S. Poppin Pops, consists of two men, Austin and Steve. The men come from vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds, but in the 24 hours before the game, they decide enough is enough. They decide to take it upon themselves to kill the opposing team, let’s say with a marker instead of a ball.

Most teams start with a couple of paintballs, which is typically enough to set the field aflame. It isn’t long before the entire field is full of a bright orange hue. During the game, you’ll definitely see a variety of colored paintballs, and the U.S. Poppin Pops typically paint each of their goals yellow, red, blue, and green.

What am I talking about? You’re about to do paintball. The game is a competitive gun that is played competitively in the paintball industry.

Make the most of your paintball equipment through practice and experimentation – How to Win at Paintball

Paintball is a great sport to play with friends. It’s also something you can do on your own, so if you’re having a bad day or you just want to go out and have fun, paintball is a great way to do so. That’s why you shouldn’t feel intimidated if you’re trying to learn paintball. Read on to learn about the terminology paintball players are familiar with and the details you won’t find on any other paintball guide.

What is paintball, really?

Drawbacks of paintball

While a lot of paintballs are bluish-black or white, it’s important to know that different paint colors are used in different ways by different paintball teams. Why bother choosing which color you play with if you aren’t going to use it in your paintball?

A side note: Most paintball games start with a stir-the-pot paint job, where there are already balls of that color sitting around, so everyone gets to play with that color anyway. As you’re playing the game, you’ll have the opportunity to get a new color. However, if no one is using it, that’s another story.

Another drawback of paintballs (even pre-mix sizes vary), is that they’re fairly heavy and slow to pump up their velocity. However, the paintball jammers you strap to your gun can change all of that. Batteries with different paint mixes can get you even faster balls, so paintball can get you working fast, but also keep you safe.

Techniques of paintball

As the name suggests, paintball involves shooting paintballs, and the paintballs travel at a relatively high speed. Shrinking those bullets, hitting whatever’s closest, and moving around is part of paintball, but it’s also what draws people to the sport. In order to win paintball games, you’re going to need to play with a reasonable amount of skill.

Learn how to handle pressure, and how to control your heart rate and breathing – How to Win at Paintball

To learn how to handle pressure, practice breathing deeply and slowly, to control your heart rate and breathing. Focusing on your breathing will also help to calm you down. Remember to breathe in for a count of four, hold for a count of four, and then breathe out for a count of four. Play with these as you work your paintball skills.

Don’t touch the ball. You don’t want to break the paint. Think of the paint in the ball as living, breathing, and potentially dangerous things: hair, sharp nails, and even sharp paint. Aim and shoot. Once you have your target painted, aim at it. Aiming means concentrate on what you want to hit and concentrate on where you want to hit it.

Get focused. Take three deep breaths and repeat this pattern: breath in through your nose, hold, and then exhale through your mouth. Focus your entire attention on the ball — don’t think of anything else. Cover your own bases. Guys, this is a man’s game. Guys, draw your line! To be safe, cover your bases instead of going for your own. Paintball is messy.

Here’s what you should and shouldn’t do. This is how you can breathe on those dangerous, living areas of the ball.

Don’t sulk. Everybody gets down after a while. Keep your smile on your face — and in your heart. You’re here for a sport, for fun, and excitement. Don’t let your emotions get the best of you. Stay focused.

Go hard or go home. Every day at paintball, there is a different game going on. Some days you paint trucks. Some days you paint houses. Some days you paint the same house over and over. Just keep going. Play hard.

Reflect. What went well yesterday may not go well today. It’s okay to play with your emotions. This is a great way to take your mind off of the game and to add some more fun to your life. Take and give. Give first, then take. Keep giving back to the team.

Paintball is a game of strategy and teamwork — learn how to use both to win!

Paintball is a game of strategy and teamwork. It’s important to have a solid strategy going into a game. Have a plan of attack and a battle plan. You also need to work as a team, which means you have to communicate with your teammates so you can work as a unit.

Make sure you have a good balance of offense and defense. Have you ever tackled another player from behind and held them in place for a few seconds while they struggled to get up? Or kicked a ball through a half-wall wall and watched it roll across the field, mowing down your teammates? Not going to happen if you don’t have a plan!

Most games start with teams of two, but you’ll want to be sure to get 4 players on each team. Often you’ll see rounds of 6 players and 8 players. You’ll also want to have at least one goalkeeper on the field, and hopefully have either a second 25-yard line or two 30-yard lines for your attackers to run down.

Most of your paintball shots will come from the center. You’ll want to make your position the furthest away from the walls. It is harder to hit balls into the side walls when you’re close to the sides (I’ve heard that you can hit into the side walls sideways, too). You also want to just barely miss the other team’s goalie, who is in the middle of the field.

Make sure you pay attention to the other team’s goalie. You have to know if he or she is coming toward you, if he or she is covering your position, and if he or she is playing the goalie like a soccer player.

There’s nothing quite like a hot-pink ball on a cold January morning. The first couple of days are very hectic. You will make many trips to the middle of the field. The ball bounce frequency will be roughly about every 90 seconds.
